His Kingdom by the Sea

Young painter Gabriela Ugalde moves from New York to Seattle to sell art and forge her own identity. She quickly falls on financial hardship, but is offered a way out; moving to a mysterious older man's private manor and creating art for him.

Against her better judgement, she goes, only to find out she isn't the first artist to have been offered that deal; she's just the only one still alive.

The novel follows Gabi as she wanders Isla de Dolores, finding pieces of the girl that came before her and slowly losing herself, all while trying to pry countless secrets from its soil: Who was the other girl? Joseph's listening, waiting, for something in the water, but what? Is she in danger as well?
